The Credentials Committee will verify and certify that the delegates and alternates to the Senate District Convention are eligible to participate. The committee shall hear any challenges concerning a delegate’s credentials and shall submit an “Official List” of all approved delegates and alternates to the Convention.

Rules Committee ensures that all meetings are run in an orderly manner, the Convention will adopt a set of Supplemental Rules which will govern the convention process. The Rules Committee will promulgate the rules and will recommend them to the delegates for approval.

The HCRP County Chair appoints a Temporary Convention Chair to organize the Convention. In turn, the Temporary Convention Chair has the responsibility of appointing other Temporary Officers to assist him or her. These temporary positions must be confirmed or replaced by Permanent Officers prior to conducting the business of the Convention. The Permanent Organization Committee shall recommend permanent convention officers for approval by the delegation.

Resolutions Committee is by far the most demanding and time-consuming Committee. Individuals on this Committee shall enter and edit all resolutions submitted to the Convention from the Precinct Conventions. Their work includes combining similar resolutions and making sure all resolutions are in the proper format. After their deliberations, the Committee will submit their recommendations to the Convention for adoption.

Nominations Committee is arguably the most challenging and the most important committee. This committee is responsible for nominating a list of State Convention delegates and ranked alternates to the body of the convention for their approval. Among their tasks is to determine any at-large delegates and to organize and validate the delegates for the purpose of making recommendations to the Convention.

Legislative Priorities Committee has the responsibility to identify 10–15 issues that we as a delegation consider to be of the highest priority for legislators to pursue in their next legislative session. This committee shall review current Legislative Priorities and propose new priorities based on the resolutions submitted by the Precinct Conventions. After completing their deliberations, the Committee will submit their recommendations to the Convention for consideration and approval.

Arrangements Committee handles the practical organization and logistics of the convention facility, including the flow of people, decorations, registration table organization, refreshments, signs and badges. This committee will likely have several sub committees to perform each function.

At a high level, the process begins at a neighborhood (precinct) level, then Senate District, then State, and in presidentional election years, there is the National Convention. At each level, qualified delegates elect people to represent at the next convention, and discuss the platform, which includes key statements on values and principles that effect our freedoms, rule of law, policies, culture, etc...

You must be a registered voter in the district, have voted in the March Primary or otherwise taken an Oath to the Republican Party, and attended the precinct convention.

Delegates represent their district, county, or state voters by voting on party rules, the platform, legislative priorities, nominations, and resolutions. Delegates must follow any binding primary or caucus instructions from their selection process.

Although only delegates that were elected at their precinct convention may vote at the SD7 Convention, ANYONE who is a registered voter in SD7 and affiliated with the Republican Party may attend as a guest, learn about the Resolutions and Legislative Priorities that will come out of the SD7 Convention, and be considered for a place on the Delegate/Alternate list to the State Convention. (If you were not elected by your precinct convention or your precinct did not hold a convention, you can still attend SD7 Convention as a GUEST and have an opportunity to be considered for a Delegate or Alternate to the State Convention.)

State convention delegates are typically elected at county or senate district conventions, often requiring attendance and nomination. National delegates are chosen through the state convention with allocations based on GOP rules (e.g., proportional to primary votes).

Review your state's GOP bylaws, study proposed platform planks and rules changes, register by deadlines, and secure credentials.

Bring photo ID, notepad, and any prepared resolutions (3 copies).

Dress comfortable. Be respectful of others. Definitely comfortable shoes. Republican colors and attire is very welcome.

Senate Convnetion will include a main caucus meeting, and then break outs for committee meetings (credentials, platform, rules). Speeches, roll-call votes, caucuses and free time to meet with other delegates, republican candidates, republican clubs, etc...
